Middle School Swimming Carnival Practice

The Middle School had its first carnival practice today.

The weather was fantastic swimming weather, the students enthusiastic about swimming and the teachers wishing they could jump into the pool too, overall a logistical feat achieved by us all.
Way to go Middle School!!
Parents please come and watch us and see what we have learnt on Wednesday 2nd March 2016 - the SWIMMING EVENT of the year.

Whole School Assembly 19 Feb 2016

Our first full whole school assembly happened today.
First we sang the National Anthem.
Mrs Driver spoke to us about this being her first assembly and that we wear our uniforms with pride!
We also sang Count On Me by Bruno Mars, it was fun!
Samantha received our certificate for this week.  Samantha has been trying really hard and risk taking which she finds really difficult to do.  Well done Samantha, Whaea and Tane are very proud of you.
Room 8 won this week's best class award.

Musicqhub Assemby

Room 16 and classes in the Middle and Senior School had a Music Assembly today.
Megan, Jordan and Sean came to show and demonstrate some of the instruments that they play and teach at Sunnyhills.
Sean showed us a trumpet, trombone, saxophone and clarinet.  He played them for us.
Meagan started playing the violin when she was 7.  She also sings and teaches singing.
Jordan plays the guitar.  He teaches it as well.  Jordan showed us some styles including blues, rock and heavy metal.
Music lessons by these teachers  start next week.

Buddy Reading with Room 20

On Friday mornings Room 16 and 20 get together and buddy read.  This is a fantastic opportunity for Room 16 children to practice their 'Daily 5 Read to Someone' strategies.

Morning Routine

In the morning when we arrive in our classroom we write up our communications diary, sharpen our pencils to get ready for our learning and day.  "Well done" says Tane the Taniwha and Whaea.  "We are so proud of you all!"

Wednesday 3 February 2016

Tane the Taniwha loves good manners!

Tane the Taniwha came to visit Room 16.
Tane just loves good manners!  We told him we do really good manners like "sharing, saying please and thank you, helping others and lots more" says Joshua.  We made shiny new scales for Tane.  Whaea thought that Tane and his new scales would be great for our classroom treaty.  Here we are with Tane.
Tane promised to come back and visit us again soon when we do other exciting things in Room 16.

1st Day!!!

Kia ora everyone,

We have just had a 1st day back at school and I am hoping it was an exciting day for all - I know it was for me!

We learnt a new song, went to a Haka powhiri to welcome our new principal and new teacher to Sunnyhills School, had a class photo and launched our Daily 5 Literacy programme!  A very busy day indeed!

We begin swimming tomorrow.  We have our trip to the Millenium Pools in March.  All in all we have a very exciting term ahead.

I have inserted a photo from this mornings' Haka Powhiri.

I wonder who will be the first student to view our blog and leave a comment?

Have a great week!
